DOE Proposed Rule and Upcoming Public Meetings
The Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB) is aware that the Department of Energy (DOE) is undertaking a review of potential revisions to 10 CFR Part 830, Nuclear Safety Management. For nearly two decades, Part 830 has served as a cornerstone of DOE’s regulatory framework to ensure adequate protection of public health and safety.
Among its essential functions, Part 830 establishes DOE’s core requirements for defining the scope of a defense nuclear facility’s operations, analyzing the hazards of those operations, and identifying the safety controls necessary to protect the public and workers. The Board plans to review and provide comments on this proposed rule during the public comment period.
As a courtesy to the public, we are providing links below to DNFSB’s April 27, 2018 letter to DOE about this proposed rule (Attachment A), the dates, times, and sites for public input on this proposed rule (Attachment B), and the proposed rule (Attachment C).
