Understanding the Safety Posture of the Plutonium Facility at Los Alamos National Laboratory
On June 7, the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board will hold a public hearing regarding the Plutonium Facility at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The Board’s goal is to understand:
- the risk associated with current and future Plutonium Facility inventory levels,
- actions taken by the National Nuclear Security Administration and Los Alamos National Laboratory to address opportunities identified by the Board to minimize material-at-risk,
- actions to reduce facility risk for long-term operations, and
- the adequacy and status of safety systems to support current and long term operations.
The public is invited to attend and participate in the public comment portion of the meeting. Individuals interested in speaking during the public comment period are encouraged to pre-register by submitting a request in writing to hearing@dnfsb.gov or by telephone to the Office of the General Counsel at (202) 694–7062 or (800) 788-4016. Individuals may also submit written comments both prior to and at the hearing.

The Board will hold the hearing record open until the close of business on July 7, 2017.
